Johnson & Johnson Says Will Lower Recommended Daily Limit for Tylenol
American pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson (J&J) said that it will be lowering the recommended limit of all products that make use of acetaminophen by the end of 2012, starting with popular painkiller Tylenol.
The company said that the step was taken to reduce the number of overdoses as well as lessen liver damage.

According to the company's McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit, the maximum daily dose of single-ingredient Extra Strength Tylenol will be reduced from eight pills (4,000 milligrams) to six pills (3,000 milligrams).

McNeil's vice president of over-the-counter medical affairs, Edwin Kuffner said that while acetaminophen was safe to use, a number of people accidentally take more than the recommended limit when using a number of different products.
