‘Jaws’ Star Roy Scheider Dies of Staph Infection

Roy Scheider, best known for his role as the police chief in Steven Spielberg’s 1975 blockbuster ‘Jaws,’ has died, aged 75.

The legendary actor passed away at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, reports News.com.au.

The hospital has refused to reveal his cause of death, but he is reported to have died of complications from a staph infection.

Hospital spokeswoman Leslie Taylor revealed that Scheider was being treated for multiple myeloma at the hospital's Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy for the past two years.

Scheider was an Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-nominated American actor.
