by Tanya Thomas on September 25, 2008 at 9:22 AM

The shock that Jade Goody suffered on learning that her cancer has spread has left the TV star "shattered". The killer disease spread from her cervix to the abdominal sac and doctors fear that now, it is much worse than once thought.

After an eight-hour operation, the former Big Brother star was given hope by doctors, who said that they had managed to catch the disease in time.

Now, mum-of-two Goody faces a year of intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy after the cancer was found to have spread to the sac around her abdominal organs.

"This is not her worst nightmare - that would be dying and leaving her children. But it comes pretty close," the Sun quoted a source, as saying.

She had been praying the treatment would only take six to nine weeks - leaving her free to care for sons Bobby, five, and Freddie, three.

"She had hoped that she would not lose all her hair," the source said.

"But now she has been told that she will definitely lose it all because the chemo will be much stronger. She's really, really upset. Jade is really worried that she will feel so ill and weak that she won't be able to look after the boys or do anything," the source added.

The reality TV star is recovering in London's Royal Marsden Hospital.
