Jade Goody’s Widower Charged With Rape

Late TV star Jade Goody's widower Jack Tweed, 22, has been remanded in custody on a charge of raping a 19-year-old girl.

He was remanded in custody until September 21 by Redbridge Magistrates' Court, East London.

The alleged sex attack took place at Tweed's home in north east London. Another man in his 20s has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Officers investigating the rape allegation also arrested a third man aged 25 last night, the Met Police said.

The 19-year-old girl who accused Tweed of rape was among a group of girls he had invited back to his rented bachelor pad after meeting them at a London nightclub.

Tweed, whose drunken partying after the death of reality TV star Miss Goody's has led to endless headlines, was taken to Ilford police station, East London, while Rubin, in his early 20s, was being questioned at Dagenham.

Police searched the house and other party-goers were interviewed.

Goody, a former dental nurse, rose to fame on Channel 4's Big Brother. Her wedding in February attracted international attention, coming as it did after she was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Tweed proposed to her shortly after doctors told her she might only have months to live.

Whirlwind preparations for the ceremony followed, with the TV personality reportedly masterminding the details from a laptop from her hospital bed.

She pledged to walk down the aisle unaided in a £3,500 gown presented to her by Harrods boss Mohamed al Fayed.

The Sun newspaper reported on Friday that she had refused to wear a veil, so that guests could see how her head had been left bald by chemotherapy treatment. OK! magazine bought the rights to the ceremony for £700,000, while TV station Living had already paid a reported £100,000 to show it as part of their series, Jade.

Goody stipulated that the entire amount should be passed on to her sons Bobby, five, and four-year-old Freddy.

A month later Goody died in sleep. Since then the gallant young man who reached out to soothe a dying woman has been found to be a hopeless drunk.

He was pictured partying in nightclubs across London just weeks after her funeral.

His past has been quite tumultous. On September 1, 2008, Tweed was sentenced to 18 months in prison for attacking a 16 year old boy with a golf club in December 2006. He served four months of the sentence before being released on electronic monitoring on 27 January 2009.

He married Jade Goody on 22 February 2009. On 3 March 2009, Tweed was convicted of common assault for attacking a taxi driver in May 2008. But he was released from jail after serving half of his 12-week sentence.

Last month he admitted to a drunken one-night stand with Lisa O'Connor, which he claimed made him feel 'sick and dirty.'

He said at the time: 'I felt so guilty that I started crying when I went home. I regretted it so much, I felt dirty and sick. No offence to her, but it's the circumstances. I shouldn't have done it.

He claimed he was drinking heavily to deal with his grief over Goody's death.

He has said: 'I don't really know how I'm bearing up at the moment. I'm drinking quite a lot, which I shouldn't be.

'I shouldn't be saying it but I don't want to lie to anyone and I am drinking quite a lot and I've got to go and see someone or I've got to stop.'
