Ireland Asks Everyone Over 50 to Get Flu Shots

by Rajashri on Jul 25 2008 5:01 PM

People aged over 50 years must ensure they get flu shots under new national immunization guidelines.

The revised guidelines from the National Immunization Advisory Committee (NIAC) also call for women of child-bearing age to get tested for their immunity to chickenpox if they have never suffered from the infection.

The new guidelines were released at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.

"We have to make that decision and the advice is to do it. And the issue is - how quickly can we introduce it? And secondly, will we have the resources to introduce it in the context of the current budgetary situation?" said Minister for Health Mary Harney.
