Insensitive Christmas Carols for the Mentally Disturbed

by Medindia Content Team on Dec 23 2007 11:44 AM

In this season of Christmas festivities, a magazine Marooned (from Cromwell House mental health facility in Eccles, Salford, UK) was to publish 'Christmas carols for the mentally disturbed' with the backing of help of social services department. It is now however been withdrawn due to the offensive humour and the insensitivity towards the psychiatric patients. Miss Camille, from Manchester, said: "I could not believe what I was reading. I was astonished that it could be so insensitive. I was angry that they could belittle people in that manner.” A classic case of ‘British humour’ that has gone too far.

A spokesman for the magazine's editorial board later made an apology and said: "No offense as intended by the feature and we apologize sincerely for any distress caused. The magazine will now be recalled and the article removed. We have spoken to Miss Camille and have invited her down to meet the editorial board. We have also said that we would be happy to include her response to the feature in the next edition of the magazine."
