
More than 700,000 people die of injuries in China every year, accounting for nine percent of all deaths, state media reported Friday.
Injuries are the fifth most common cause of death in China, after malignant tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, respiratory diseases and heart diseases, Xinhua news agency said, citing the health ministry.

The top causes of injuries are traffic accidents, suicides, water-related accidents, poisoning and falls, accounting for 70 percent of total deaths from injuries, according to Xinhua.
Every year, 200 million injuries are recorded, in a population of 1.3 billion, the agency said.
It quoted ministry spokesman Mao Qun'an as saying inadequate awareness meant not enough was being done to prevent injuries.
