Inflatable Bouncers may Not be So Safe for Children
There has been a marked increase in injuries to children from inflatable bouncers or “moonwalks” which have gained popularity over the years as amusement for children.
Many of them are hired for use in the backyard during birthday parties. There has been a 15 fold increase in reported injuries from 1995-2010, according to a recent study. Some of the children rushed to emergency had suffered sprains and fractures as well as head and neck injuries.

Although the public may think they are safe, this study points out the risks in the use of these devices.

Some injuries were due to stunts the children performed such as flips, diving head down, sliding head down, diving head first etc.. Some of the children fell out of the bouncers or collided with other children.

Some of the reasons for rise in injuries could be due to increase in the number of inflatable bouncers, alterations to the design, as well as rise in the number of injuries being reported.
