India, Soon to Have a Newborn Screening Lab in Haryana
The Haryana Government and the University of the United States have a tie up for setting the Newborn Screening (NBS) Laboratory in the State.
New born babies will be tested to detect any health ailment or disease affecting infants. This is an effort to lower infant mortality and provide good health to every new born as; two to seven-year-old babies is the target population.

Health Minister Anil Vij, who met a delegation led by Dr. Madhuri Hegde, executive director of the Emory Genetics Laboratory (United States) said, with the project, Haryana will become the first State in the country to have set up such a lab.

If any disease or problem is identified then efforts would be made to treat it with medicines, diet, counselling and other necessary directions. Mr. Vij said Emory University would provide help in setting up of the advanced lab in which blood and other tests would be carried out of new-born children.
