A University of Minnesota research has revealed that the increased use of added sugar in the United States has directly seen a rise in obesity across the country.

The rising obesity came about even though the total fat content in the diet reduced over the years. “We’re looking at trends. We looked at them in women and men, and in both men and women, added sugar intake increased since 1980. At the same time, BMI has also increased”, lead researcher Lyn Steffen wrote in the report.
The study was presented at the American Heart Association conference in Atlanta on Thursday.
