It’s time we understood how healthy and nutritious are seven seeds which we love to eat. Each of these seeds has its own specialty. Some are rich in vitamins, minerals, while some are full of magnesium, calcium, fibre and iron.
The seven seeds that are full of health benefits are pomegranate, hemp, chia, sesame seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds and wheat germ.

Pomegranate is rich in antioxidant, particularly ellagitannin compounds like punicalagins and punicalins. It is also a very rich source of vitamin C. This low-calorie seed helps in losing weight.

The University of Maryland Medical Center said, “In test tubes, pomegranate extracts made from juice, rind, and oil slow down the reproduction of cancer cells and may hasten their death. Some extracts also help reduce blood supply to tumours, starving them and making them smaller.”

Hemp is one seed that consists of all the 20 essential amino acids. It helps build toned muscles.

Chia seeds help build strong bones as they are rich source of calcium. Sesame seeds give us a healthy heart: The seed comprises linoleic acid, a kind of omega-6 fatty acid that helps check bad cholesterol.

Flax seeds help prevent cancer. They are a good source ofomega-3 fatty acids, lignans and mucilage and helps decrease diseases that cause inflammation.

This nutty and light pumpkin seed is a storehouse of iron, thus giving us high energy. The World Health Organisation recommends consumption of pumpkin seeds to get essential nutrients. It acts like a good roasted snack.

Wheat germ is another seed which is actually the inner part of a wheat kernel. And this section contains inulin, a type of fibre that aids in keeping a good digestive system. It also prevents cardiovascular diseases.
