In World- Record Attempt, Chennai Students Make Mega Portrait of 65 Patriotic Leaders
Students in Chennai attempted to make a mega portrait comprising coloured pictures of 65 patriotic leaders, by using rangoli, in an endeavour to register their name in the Limca Book of Records.
The event was organised to celebrate the upcoming 65th Independence Day.

The objective was to create a mega portrait comprising of 65 leaders on an area of 65, 000 sq. feet with each portrait covering an area of 10*10.

"There are 65 leaders and each one of us has taken up a leader and they have beautifully portrayed it and we feel proud to do this as an Indian. I think patriotism is a respect for one's own country and I take it and chak de India (Come on! India)," said a student, Prarthana.

She further said that she made a portrait of Captain Lakshmi Sehgal, who was a follower of Rani Lakshmi Bai, the queen of Jhansi.

The participants were from class 8 and class 9 standard who were divided into 16 teams of 4 each.

The Principal of the school, Sivakumar, said it was a great experience for his students as they came to know more about the Indian freedom fighters.

"It was really wonderful. It has given a moral learning to my children saying that these many people (Indian leaders) have laid their lives in getting this freedom. Freedom was not free," said Sivakumar.

The students also participated in different cultural activities like yoga, making pyramid and cultural dance.
