Imposing “Fat Tax” on Sugary Drinks may Help Reduce Obesity Rates
A new study published in the British Journal of Nutrition recommends that imposing a “fat tax” on sugary drinks will be able to help in curbing the rising obesity rates.
The team of international scientists suggested that imposing a 10 percent tax on sugary drinks would lead to a hike in price of the products and thereby cut down the consumption of such drinks with consumers opting for healthier and cheaper alternatives.

Denmark became the first country to impose a special tax on food products containing more than 2.3 percent of saturated fat, with France and Finland introducing similar tax in their countries.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has already said that a similar policy in Britain could be introduced in order to tackle the growing rate of obesity.
