Immunization Drive,
Mission Indradhanush, an immunization programme initiated by the Union Government, would be launched in Visakhapatnam on April 7, said District Collector N. Yuvaraj on Saturday.
The program aims to immunize all those children by 2020 who are either not vaccinated or are partially vaccinated against seven vaccine preventable diseases which include diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B.

Speaking at a review meeting on Saturday, organized on the preparedness for the launch of the program, Yuvaraj said that the failure of the officials in not monitoring the vaccination program properly in the district has resulted in two cases of diphtheria surfacing, one in China Waltair and another in Pendurti.

The vaccination program was going on properly in the rural areas and there was only one case of measles reported in Pedabayalu PHC area. He directed officials to go for vaccination of all children under five years of age in the respective areas.

Noting that none from the Public Health wing of the GVMC attended the review meeting, the Collector, who heads the district-level task force under Mission Indradhanush, directed officials to ensure that all the high risk areas in the city limits were covered.
