I Have Learned a Lot from My Struggle: Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie revealed that she truly believes the old saying, ’What does not kill you makes you stronger’.
Jolie underwent a preventive surgery to remove her breasts, ovaries and fallopian tubes to reduce her risk of cancer because she carries the BRCA1 gene.

Angelina Jolie, said, "I do believe in the old saying, ’What does not kill you makes you stronger’. Our experiences, good and bad, make us who we are. By overcoming difficulties, we gain strength and maturity."

The actress underwent a laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed after a test showed that she could be in early stages of ovarian cancer.

Jolie said, “There was a small benign tumor on one ovary, but no signs of cancer in any of the tissues.”

Two years ago, the actress underwent a double mastectomy after discovering she carried a gene which meant she had an 87 percent risk of developing breast cancer.

Jolie lost her mother, aunt and grandmother to cancer, and considering her family history and genetic background, her decision to undergo a cancer preventive surgery is a way of taking back her life.
