Recent tests conducted on samples of water supplied by The Delhi Jal Board in the city zone, has revealed severe contamination with human feces. 18% of water supplied by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) was found to be contaminated. Alarmingly, 60% of Delhi households consume water supplied by DJB. More than ten types of bacteria were found in the 100 ml sample of water, some of which can trigger water-borne diseases like jaundice, cholera, typhoid, and gastroenteritis.
Rusting of water pipes and mixing of sewer and water plant pipe lines may have caused the contamination of water.
