conducted by experts from the University of East Anglia and Harvard University showed that consuming citrus fruits, blueberries and red wine can help reduce erectile dysfunction.
‘Three or four portions or glasses of flavonoid-rich foods and drinks like citrus fruits and red wine were associated with a reduced risk of erectile dysfunction.
Lead researcher, Aedin Cassidy from the University of East Anglia said, "Flavonoids are present in many plant-based foods and drinks including fruits, vegetables, tea, herbs and wine. We examined six main types of commonly consumed flavonoids and found that three in particular anthocyanins, flavanones and flavones are beneficial."
Researchers conducted the study on more than 50,000 middle-aged men wherein one third of them were suffering from erectile dysfunction. They found that men who regularly consumed flavonoid-rich foods were 10 percent less likely to experience erectile dysfunction.
They also found that a combination of consuming flavonoid-rich foods with exercise can reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction by 21 percent. The benefits were much stronger among younger men.
Cassidy said, "The top sources of anthocyanins, flavones and flavanones consumed in the US are strawberries, blueberries, red wine, apples, pears, and citrus products."
