Hospital Ropes in ‘Fake Patients’ to Secure Medical College Recognition in Haryana

As per the Medical Council of India, Hospitals must possess a bed strength of 600 along with 70% mandatory occupancy to admit 100 medical students. In a motive to secure recognition as a medical college, a private hospital in Haryana has roped in ‘fake’ patients.

Adesh hospital in Kurukshetra has paid people in nearby villages a sum of 200 rupees to act as patients during the MCI inspection. An employee of the hospital seeking clearance allegedly contacted a former village head J D Singh, and offered Rs 200 each for every person posing as a patient, along with food and refreshments.

The Health Minister Anil Vij said, “A committee for inspection found that some patients appeared to be fakes. We will inquire (into) the entire matter."
