Coroner Andrew Walker has recorded a verdict of unlawful killing at an inquest into the death of Julian Hunter, 44, who suffered a massive nosebleed more than a week after an assault. The coroner also criticised the Royal Free Hospital for failing to recognise the severity of Mr. Hunter's injury and for providing inadequate treatment.

The deceased suffered a broken nose when he was punched in the face several times. His nose began to bleed 2-weeks later. Mr. Hunter had to be hospitalized since his nose failed to stop bleeding for two hours. the inquest heard, he collapsed and was found slumped in his hospital bed the same day, more than an hour after he was last checked by a nurse. His life support machine was switched off 2-days after being admitted.

Post-mortem examination revealed that Mr. Hunter suffered cardiac arrest which led to his death. His brain was swollen. Hourly monitoring and preparations for a blood transfusion would probably have saved Mr Hunter's life.
