Patients and hospital staff are at an increased risk of contracting asthma due to the extensive use of cleaning sprays in the hospitals, a leading health expert warned.
Speaking at the European allergy conference in London, Dr Jan-Paul Zock, who works at the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology in Barcelona, cited a number of previous studies which links cleaning sprays and asthma.

Breathing in an environment filled with bleach, ammonia, decalcifiers, acids, solvents and stain removers increases the chances of asthma by more than 20 percent, Dr Zock warned, pointing out to the increasing number of nurses who are suffering from the disease.
"The number of people at risk is very large. Our research shows that cleaning-related asthma is an important public health issue and it is potentially preventable", he added.
