Hope for Infertile Men as Sperm Produced from Germs Cells
In what could prove to be a major breakthrough in infertility among men, a group of Japanese researchers at Kyoto University managed to create sperm producing germ cells using which they were able to produce a healthy mice by transferring the germs cells to infertile mice.
The researchers made use of stem cells from mouse embryo to create the germ cells that increased the production of sperms in infertile mice. Lead researcher Dr Katsuhiko Hayashi expressed hope that the study will pave way for similar results among humans that could help thousands of infertile men to become fathers.

“This is the first study to create health and fertile offspring from germline cells generated from embryonic stem cells. Previous studies have not demonstrated the generation of such offspring”, Professor Mitinori Saitou, who also worked on the study, said. The study has been published in the journal Cell.
