Honey Fights Severe Infections

 Honey Fights Severe Infections
A natural alternative to penicillin and penicillin products has been discovered by researchers from the University of Queensland and the State Government in honey from an Australian myrtle.
Of all the medicinal honeys in the world, the researchers found that this had the most powerful anti-bacterial properties as it had very high levels of the ingredient, Methylglyoxal [MGO]. While medicinal honey has been used to treat wounds and viruses, the honey from the Australian myrtle distributed along the Australian eastern seaboard from the south coast of NSW to Cape York is powerful to fight infections that have become resistant to penicillin and derivatives due to overuse.

Carolyn MacGill, the chief executive of a company involved in the research, says that even MRSA, Methicillin-Resistant staphylococcus aureus, a common bacterial infection in hospitals and community facilities where residents are immune challenged, such as nursing homes, and staph-type infections can be treated effectively by this honey, hitherto unknown.
