HIV Risk High for Dental Patients

by Rajashri on Jun 1 2009 8:00 PM

NHS South Gloucestershire, NHS Bristol and NHS Bournemouth and Poole have sent out letters to thousands of patients warning them they might be at risk of contacting HIV as poor hygiene was maintained at a dentist's office.

The dentist in question has "worked at Frenchay Dental Practice in Bristol between January 2003 and July 2007 and the East Street Dental Practice for two weeks in December 2007." Some 5,000 patients who were treated in Bristol have been sent the letters.

Patients are asked to attend a special clinic and also get a blood test to negate their worries.

The General Dental Council has suspended the dentist pending an investigation.
