British hip implant manufacturer DePuy and its Australian distributor Johnson and Johnson are facing a class action in Australia

The lawsuit was filed by the Maurice Blackburn law firm on Monday with lead solicitor Ben Slade claiming that the devices were supposed to work for at least 15 years.
“One of the problems that appears to happen is that the metal wear debris gets into the bloodstream and causes soft tissue reaction and also degradation of the bone around the hip”, Slade said, adding that the long term implications of the devices are yet to be ascertained though the chances of a revision surgery gets reduced over time.
