The Dean of Emory's Rollins School of Public Health, James Curran, said the collaboration would be for a three-year period. Based on the success of the programme, it could be extended further.

The centre will come up at Siruseri on Chennai's southern outskirts.

"It will be a research hub for epidemiological research in the country," president of MDRF V. Mohan told the media. "This will also help us to take up intervention trials on prevention of diabetes and its complications throughout South Asia and globally", he added.
