 Heartbeat Cue to Dementia
Stroke survivors who suffer from atrial fibrillation, irregular heartbeat, face the risk of developing early dementia, according to new research that has been reported in Neurology.
A study of more than 46,000 patients of an average age of 72 years showed that 25 per cent of stroke patients who had atrial fibrillation developed dementia. They also faced the risk of developing cognitive problems.

Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) shows itself through difficulties with problem solving, multitasking and recalling recent events and interactions.   The National Center for Biotechnology Information, though, states that not everyone with MCI will develop dementia.

The latest study has revealed information that will help researchers to identify and monitor individuals who face the risk of early dementia and develop treatments to prevent mild cognitive decline.
