The newspapers speak about it, textbooks emphasize upon it and almost everyone is talking about it; global warming is most definitely an issue of serious concern. Over the years, population has drastically increased, and the need for land, water and food has subsequently risen.

As expected, humans began to assault and strip the natural environments of their need and then greed; and air, water and land pollution began to increase. This has led to a build-up of carbon in the atmosphere, and global warming followed soon after. The result? Climate changes became severe, temperatures started soaring, and wildlife started deteriorating; at this pace, we could expect severe and potentially fatal environmental conditions within a few years.

To make sure future generations enjoy nature and other bounties of the earth, global warming needs to be brought under control. Every individual needs to take steps to lessen global warming, so as to improve climatic conditions on the earth, and prevent worsening of conditions. We’ve listed below some simple global warming solutions which every individual should strive to implement at the individual level, and contribute to the betterment of the earth.

Turn it off- Most of us tend to forget turning off appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners and water heaters when not needed, which adds to the carbon in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, being one of the greenhouse gases, contributes to global warming and is responsible for the elevated temperatures on the earth.

Turning these appliances off when not needed is the first and important step to prevent global warming at the individual level. Alternatively, you could also opt for energy-efficient appliances which consume less power and also reduce carbon emission.

Go green- Choosing green alternatives to everything you buy is yet another effective step in combating global warming. Using natural fertilizers for crops, safe disposal methods and choosing chemical-free alternatives for everything can help too.

When travelling to nearby places, don’t use your car; instead, choose public transportation systems or even better, walk.

Get natural- Organic foods and products are fast emerging today; and they’re not just good for your health, but also contribute to a better environment. Choose organic soaps, shampoos, skincare products and other day-to-day requirements as opposed to chemical-based products.

Switch and swap- More and more natural resources are being used to compensate for the growing needs of electricity; turn to using more energy-efficient products and items. You could also choose to use solar-powered products.

Recycle- You may come across recycled books, paper and other articles in your nearby store; choose them over other products. Also remember that trees produce life-giving oxygen, and also keep the temperatures controlled; so think before you liberally use tissue papers to wipe off your hands after a meal.

Choose recycled paper bags over plastic carry bags-plastic bags are non-biodegradable and are responsible for water pollution too.
