Ecstasy Can Heal Patients With Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Researchers claim that patients with post-traumatic stress disorder can obtain better benefits from ecstasy.

Post traumatic stress disorder is defined as a severe anxiety disorder developing as an aftermath of exposure to any psychology trauma. Psychological trauma can adversely affect the sexual, physical and even the psychological integrity of an individual.

Ecstasy Debate Continues To Go On
Governments over reaction to ecstasy by issuing warnings against its use and making it illegal has led to significant debates in policy circles.

Scientists are of the opinion that ecstasy - the dance drug is effective in curing serious psychological problems in people.

The researchers enrolled 21 patients with post traumatic stress disorder who showed negligible response to psychotherapy. The study was published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology.

Rick Doblin, the Founder and Executive Director of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies in Santa Cruz, California said, “We've now shown that the results from the initial study were not some transitory and superficial psychedelic afterglow but were profound and lasting.”

Using Ecstasy Even In Small Amounts Can Cause Memory Loss
A new study has linked ecstasy use to dementia-like memory problems.

The study follow up has revealed that traumatized patients are effectively treated by drug-enhanced therapy sessions. The patients showed remarkable improvements in their post traumatic stress disorder.

According to scientists, the administration of ecstasy decreases defensiveness and fear and enhances trust and confidence between therapist and patient.

'Ecstasy' the Drug
Ecstasy is the street name for the psychoactive drug 3,4-MethyleneDioxy-N-MethylAmphetamine or MDMA. A part of the rave culture, it provides relaxation and helps to dance the night away.

It was observed that around 83 percent of ecstasy-administered volunteers showed considerable improvements in traumatic stress symptoms as compared to 23 percent of placebo-administered volunteers.

Initially, the research was not widely accepted as the patients were followed up for few weeks only, but recently Michael Mithoefer, a Psychiatrist, and his wife Ann, a nurse, from South Carolina who conducted these studies confirmed that the psychological benefits derived from ecstasy were maintained even four years later.
