Dengue cases are on rise in the rural district Dakshina Kannada, India, which has led the department of health and family welfare to constitute a rapid response team at the district, taluk and primary health center levels.
The rapid //response teams will visit the affected areas, households where cases of fever have been reported and also take steps for source reduction of vectors.

U T Khader, Minister for health and family welfare, said, “The district team will consist of district surveillance officer, district vector borne diseases control officer, epidemiologist, and entomologist. The team at taluk level will consist of taluk health officer, senior health assistants - male and female, and at the primary health centre level - medical officer of the PHC and the junior health assistant attached to the PHC.”

The teams will survey around 50 households in a 500 meter radius around the household of dengue affected person, carryout due examination and provide treatment.

Vector source reduction in the 50 households will be done by the junior health assistants and Asha workers. Panchayati raj institutions or urban local bodies will carry out fogging using a 2% pyrethrum solution, said Khader.

The health department has already covered 2,100 households by carrying out fogging in the affected areas.

“Protocol had been issued to doctors through Indian Medical Association to see that all patients with communicable diseases were provided proper treatment,” said Khader.
