Health Campaign Launched in 5,430 Schools in Maharashtra

Rural schools in Pune have been witness to a health drive which began on August 15th and will be on for a month. More than 5,430 schools comprising 7, 21,000 children will undergo medical examination under this scheme. Exclusive health teams have been deputed for each area to conduct health examinations during the stipulated period.

Confirming that all schools will be provided medical kits after the health examination, Zilla Parishad CEO Shyam Vardhane, said, "The drive is being implemented under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) - a central government scheme for early detection of diseases and physical disabilities in students of primary and secondary schools. It also aims at spreading awareness about precautionary health measures."

Many school children suffer problems with vision, hearing and skin allergies which were unnoticed and therefore neglected. This health drive would help detecting such problems and help find a solution to them.

The medical teams will comprise both men and women medical specialists, who will be accompanied by a team of nurses and lab technicians. Blood tests will also be conducted if required.

Remedy for minor ailments will be provided instantly while serious ones will be referred to district hospitals. The health awareness campaign will above all seek to inculcate the importance of hygiene and cleanliness to the establishment of good health during the growing years.
