Hawaii Becomes the First US State to Push Authorized Smoking Age from 18 to 21
Statistics reveal that around 90% of people who smoke in Hawaii begin out earlier than they attain the age of 21 years and almost 1,400 people in Hawaii have been killed due to tobacco use. Hawaii has now become the very first state of US to push the authorized smoking age from 18 years to 21 years with effect of which purchase and use of digital cigarettes will also be banned for individuals under the age of 21 years from January 1, 2016.
Governor of Hawaii David Ige signed the bill of raising the minimum smoking age in the state, on June 19, 2015. All the anti-tobacco promoters of other US states are weighing following suit that whether Hawaii’s historic step will light a match under the campaign nationally remains to be seen or not.

Karmen Hanson, program manager at the National Conference of State Legislatures, said, "This initiative in Hawaii would encourage other states to raise their legal smoking age."
