To counter the declining female sex ratio and also prevent girl child discrimination, a mass yagna, (fire ritual) was organised at Rohtak in Haryana.
The fortnight-long ceremony, which was commenced on March 13 and culminated on March 27, was hosted by Arya Samaj in cooperation with several local organizations.Over 10, 000 people attended this ritual and took a vow to put an end to female feticide in the state.
"In Hindu religion, every important event is started with a fire ritual. As far as female feticide is concerned, I feel that everybody should resolve to abolish this social evil and that's why we have conducted this fire ritual," said Poonam Arya, member of Arya Samaj, Rohtak.
The participants who took part in the Yagna vouched to end girl child discrimination in the society and affirmed to offer their full support to this campaign.
"Fire ritual has been performed to make people vouch that they will end female feticide," said Swami Aryavesh, a monk of Arya Samaj.
Reportedly, female feticide has been widespread in India, particularly in the rural areas and among the orthodox society since boys are preferred by parents on the contention that they are major breadwinners.
