Hairspray Sales for Women on Record High
A new study has found that hairspray sales have hit a record breaking 173 million pounds in 2011, as women want to copy the big-hair styles of their celebrity idols.

According to the study by analysts Mintel, the demand is rocketing among girls who are keen to follow the leads of stars like Cheryl Cole.

Experts have said that hairspray is the "success story of recent years' and its use is up 14 percent since 2007.

Sales account for nearly six in ten hair styling products sold on the high street.

Combined sales of hair dyes and styling products are also tipped to increase by six percent this year to reach a record 624 million pounds.

Mintel also found that at the same time, demand for home perm kits is rising as women seek big hairstyles.

"Women want relatively inexpensive DIY ways to look good," the Sun quoted Mintel as saying.
