The state government in Uttar Pradesh will be keeping an eye on teachers in government-run schools after deciding to install a solar-run bio metric attendance system in all the schools to keep track of teachers' attendances.
A control room will be set up in the state capital to keep a record of teachers' attendance.
As part of the pilot project, a solar bio-metric system was set up at the Mati Higher Secondary School in Sarojini Nagar in Lucknow Tuesday. Besides registering attendance, it will keep an eye on the mid-day meal scheme.
Officials of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, which oversees the mid-day meal programme, said many school teachers were not attending their duties.
