A 40-year-old man in Thrissur District of Kerala has been diagnosed with 'Kala Azar', also known as 'Black fever' and two others with similar symptoms are under observation.
District Medical Officer Dr R Sushita K said, "There has been a confirmed case of Kala Azar and the patient has been referred to the Thrissur Medical College Hospital."
Disease Epidemic Desk centers which are operational round the clock have been opened in all districts. Health Minister V S Sivakumar assured that the state has taken preventive steps to curb it and the communicable diseases.
An inter-Sectoral co-ordination committee meeting chaired by the chief secretary has been convened in this regard. All details where the epidemics are reported is being assessed and updated through video conferencing.
Sivakumar said, "Under the aegis of the district collectors, awareness classes and other related activities are being carried out especially in the plantation areas which are prone to black fever."
Recurrent fever, loss of appetite, weight loss, weakness, and anaemia are the common symptoms of the disease.
