Al Gore, the former vice president of the US, has said that the record-breaking snow is not an indication that global warming is a hoax, rather it is just another sign of creeping climate change.

"Just as it's important not to miss the forest for the trees, neither should we miss the climate for the snowstorm," Gore wrote in an Op-Ed for The New York Times.

That puts "significantly more moisture into the atmosphere - thus causing heavier downfalls of both rain and snow," he added.

He backed legislation coming up this week in the Senate that would cap carbon emissions.
