Gender Identity Disorder Causes Thomas to Become Tammy
Thomas Lobel, was adopted at age two by lesbian mothers. When he was barely three years old and was having some problems with speech, he had indicated to them in sign language suggesting that he is a girl.
Thomas prefers to be addressed as Tammy, and from the age of eight has been receiving the hormone-blocking treatment which will halt the puberty process.

Sad and unhappy as a boy, Tammy, now 11, only wears girlie attire and prefers to live like a girl. He had threatened genital self-mutilation, and therapists had diagnosed him with gender identity disorder.

Thomas began to take hormone-blocking drugs to delay the development of deep voice, facial hair and broad shoulders.

The hormone treatment will give him some time to decide whether he really wants to transition into a female. If he decides against it, he can stop taking the drugs to undergo male puberty without it affecting fertility.
