GE Healthcare is planning to make all its healthcare devices and equipment affordable in the domestic market. GE Healthcare is the medical diagnostics and imaging equipment arm of GE. //
GE launched first ‘Made in India’ Computed Tomography (CT Scan) system designed and manufactured by GE Healthcare in India. ‘Revolution ACTs’, the new product, was developed by the company with an investment of around Rs.120 crore and is priced at less than Rs.1 crore.

“This is the first CT scan machine designed, developed and manufactured in India. About 50 engineers at our Research & Development centre worked to develop the system. The machine comes at around 40% lesser price and is manufactured at our Whitefield facility,” said John Flannery, GE Healthcare President and CEO.

GE healthcare plans to tap hospitals and diagnostic centres in smaller towns as well. Apart from focusing on the domestic market, it is planning to export the machines to other countries in Southeast Asia.

India imports 75% of its medical technologies and devices making accessibility and affordability a challenge. “The Indian market is different from many other markets in the world. The affordability of healthcare technologies is one of the important things, which will help the healthcare sector. We are committed towards it, and have plans to position all our products affordable and accessible,” Mr. Flannery added.
