FTTI Row: Student On Indefinite Hunger Strike For Gajendra Singh
One of the three students of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on hunger strike was hospitalized after his health condition worsened.
Hilal Savad, one of the three FTII students on hunger strike, would remain under observation for a day.

Ranjit Nair, a core committee member of the strike, confirmed the news through a text message.

"That's (the news) true. His name is Hilal Savad. His sugar level dropped drastically after 30 hours. His hands and feet had become numb," the message said.

"He wasn't responding to our calls. The doctors had to take him to the ICU. He is stable now. But will be under observation for another day at least," it added.

The students are protesting the appointment of BJP member and actor Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of the FTII.

The students went on hunger strike on Thursday, appealing the government to come up with a solution of the deadlock.

They claim that Chauhan lacked credentials for the post of the chairman and that his appointment was politically-motivated. The strike entered its 93rd day on Saturday.

Despite support from eminent members of the film fraternity like Mani Ratnam, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Jahnu Barua, Dibakar Bannerjee, Girish Kasaravalli, Resul Pookutty and Vidya Balan, the issue has reached an impasse.

At least 190 film personalities have urged for President Pranab Mukherjee's intervention to resolve the issue.
