Fourth Death in China Caused by Bird Flu Identified

A 31-year-old woman has died of bird flu in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China. This is the Fourth death cause by bird flu in China.

The woman got infected after a visit to a local poultry market on Jan 10, said Wan Xianyan, Deputy Director of the regional health department.

She was then rushed to the 'Chinese center for disease control and prevention', where her infection with the H5N1 strain of avian influenza was reveled.

H5N1 strain infects more species than any previously known flu virus strain. This is the fourth death in the country caused by bird flu. The first death was a 19-year-old woman in Beijing on Jan. 5, followed by a 27-year-old woman in Shandong on Jan. 17 and a 16-year-old boy in Hunan on Jan. 20. Another 2-year-old infected girl has been successful in surviving the terrible disease after her vital signs remained stable for six consecutive days. The death rate for bird flu patients is above 60 percent.
