Former CM of Kerala, Karunakaran, to Be Discharged Soon

Former Kerala chief minister K. Karunakaran, admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital last Sunday, is recovering and is likely to be discharged within the next few days, family sources said Friday.

The 89-year-old four-time chief minister arrived at the hospital for a routine check-up Sunday. However, the doctors advised that he be kept under medical observation as he complained of breathlessness.

The veteran leader has been out of active politics after merging his party, Democratic Indira Congress-Karunakaran -- which he launched after quitting the Congress -- with the Nationalist Congress Party.
