Flu pandemic and not terrorism is the greatest threat faced by Britain today which could see more than 750,000 people die due to the disease, warns a new government report that will be released today.
According to the newly created "risk register", a flu pandemic is certain to occur in future and the death toll could rise anywhere between 50,000 to 750,000. Flu claims over 12,000 deaths annually in Britain but government officials fear that a mutant strain of the virus could prove to be resistant to drugs and increase the death toll by as much as 300 times. In case of an emergency, various scenarios including mass graves, 24-hour cremations and inflatable mortuaries have been considered.
