Florida Ranked As The 5th Least Healthy State In The US

United Health Foundation has rated Florida’s health care as the 5th least healthy state in the US. This is Florida’s worst ranking since 2001. For the past 8 years, the health system in Florida has usually been in the top 10. The percentage of employers offering health insurance to employees has also been decreasing. 78.3% of workers take the Health Insurance plans offered by their employers.

The factors that made Florida’s overall health rank decrease include a high incidence of infectious disease, people with no Health Insurance, a very high violent crime rate and the second worst geographic disparity in the country.

The situation can be improved greatly with the appropriate measures and funding. More public funding is needed. In 2008, the state received about $64 per person as well as more primary care physicians and options to make Health Insurance more accessible.
