
Immediate relief is provided by more than 20,000 Sri Lankan troops, to people affected by the severe weather and floods in the island, over the past few days.
Military spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya was quoted by the Lanka Page web site, as saying that immediate relief measures are continuing with the coordination of the DMC Task force.

The task force is headed by the Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and consists of Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, the Chief of Defence Staff, Tri Services Commanders and the Inspector General of Police.
