First Trial for Ross River Virus Vaccine Underway in Oz
A group of Australian researchers are conducting the first trial for a vaccine to fight against the Ross River virus that affects over 5,000 people annually in the country.
The mosquito borne disease is on the rise across the country with more than 500 cases already registered in Western Australia alone.

The disease is characterized by arthralgia, or joint pain due to allergic reaction to medicines, arthritis, fever and rash.

The study will be conducted by Vaccine Trials Group at the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research and lead researcher Peter Richmond said that he hoped the vaccine will come in the market in the next three years. “We would hope that in two to three years there might be a vaccine that's for use in the population but that would depend on the company putting it up for registration”, he said.
