First Baby from Screened Egg is Born in Britain

In a new milestone for fertility treatments, the first baby has been born for a new technique called array Comparative Genomic Hybridisation (CGH).

Baby Oliver is the first baby to be born in Britain using this technique that examines eggs for abnormalities and thus helpes fertility doctors choose the best eggs for treatment. The procedure was undertaken at Care Fertility in Nottingham.

Infertility is a condition wherein couples fail to achieve pregnancy or if the woman has been unable to carry a pregnancy that results in a live birth.

"Chromosomal abnormality plays a major part in the failure to establish a pregnancy," said Professor Simon Fishel, Managing Director of CARE Fertility Group "Full chromosome analysis may double the chance of success in couples who have a poor chance of conceiving or a history of failed treatments and miscarriage; and maximise the chance of pregnancy in all couples. :

the parents of Oilver, who are yet to be named, had failed to conceive on 13 previous occasions using IVF.
