Figures Reveal too Many Dental Visits for Patients

New figures released by the Department of Health in Britain have revealed that dentists in the country are calling up their patients more often than necessary, at least three times more than indicated by the NICE guidelines. According to the figures, more than 71 percent of the patients visit their dentists for another check up within nine months. It was also found that dentists asked their patients to visit them for routine checkups every six to nine months while NICE guidelines suggest that healthy adults should visit their dentists just once every two years.

There are also concerns that many dentists call up their patients for routine checkups just to make more money. England’s chief dental officer, Barry Cockcroft has now sent department briefs to dentists, asking them to follow NICE guidelines.

“Ensuring patients are given an appropriate recall interval is a professional and ethical requirement and helps patients to maintain good oral health”, the brief said.
