Fertility Kits for Men

While home fertility tests for women are already available, a new device that will test the sperm count of men will soon be available in the market in Britain.

While the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently conducting a review of the device, Dr John Herr, who helped develop the product, expressed his confidence that it will prove to be popular among men who want to conduct fertility tests in the privacy of their homes.

The SpermCheck Fertility test will be available for as little as £15 and has an accuracy rating of 96 percent in laboratory where tests were conducted on 225 samples.

In a report, published in the journal Human Reproduction, Dr Herr said that the device works by detecting the levels of SP-10, an antigen which is found on the sperm head. The device then displays whether the sperm count is above 20 million per milliliter or below five million per milliliter in which case the user will have to take medical help in order to deal with infertility.
