Fashion Show in Surat To Create HIV Awareness

by Hannah Punitha on Jun 12 2008 6:09 PM

Models walked the ramp during a fashion show in Surat to create awareness on the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

The fashion show was organised by the students of International Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD), Surat.

A team of six girls churned dresses with condoms fixed on them as part of the theme which was handed over to them by the Institute's management.

The students and the teachers of the institute do not agree with the government's claim that the HIV awareness among the citizens is high.

"People say that HIV awareness among people across the world is very high but the reality is something else. Till the time, this show was conceptualized, nobody among the students had even seen a condom. But when we told them that they have to use it on the garments they used condoms very creatively and the garments did not look vulgar but very creative instead and the message students wanted to convey was conveyed very nicely," said Nirav Patel an INIFD student

Students felt happy over the fact that they were able to covey their message through their dresses without looking vulgar.

Top of the line models from across the country sashayed down the ramp wearing the unique creations by the students of the institute.
