Facebook is Responsible for Anorexia, Says Editor of Italian Vogue
The editor of the leading fashion magazine, Italian Vogue, has slammed social networking giant Facebook and said that the website, and not the fashion industry, was responsible for the spread of anorexia.
Franca Sozzani made use of an Israeli study which found that the risk of suffering from eating disorders increased by the amount of time adolescent girls spent their time in front of Facebook. Sozzani said that users often made fun of anorexia and in fact encouraged it.

“On Facebook users share everything and for sure will make comments on anorexia, make fun of it or encourage it. Models, as I have underlined before, are in most cases naturally long, lean and slender being still very young and still not fully developed. The image they convey, however, is often that of an excessive thinness, but designers themselves discard those who are visibly suffering from nutritional problems”, she said.
